Origin & Genetic Lineage
Steel Magnolia is a Southern U.S. variety of Psilocybe cubensis, reportedly discovered in Mississippi and introduced to the mycology community in 2011. Though the original isolator remains undocumented, the name reflects themes of Southern resilience and charm. This strain likely stems from wild-collected spores that were regionally stabilized over time.

History & Community Spread
Steel Magnolia gained early popularity among home cultivators and beginners due to its forgiving growth patterns, reliable fruiting, and balanced potency. While not as commercially hyped as Golden Teacher, its grassroots reputation has remained strong.

Appearance & Morphology
Caps are medium to large, golden to caramel in color, starting hemispherical and flattening or becoming wavy at maturity. Stems are thick, white to tan, and bruise blue when handled. Spores are dark purple-brown, with abundant spore production ideal for microscopy.

Potency & Effects
This strain is considered MILD on the Tanasi Potency Scale. It delivers a light, uplifting experience that is suitable for new users or gentle introspection. Commonly reported effects include:

Uplifted mood and emotional clarity
Mild visuals with color enhancement

Cultivation Notes
Steel Magnolia colonizes quickly and resists contamination well. It thrives on BRF cakes, CVG tubs, and manure blends. Fruiting is consistent, with moderate to heavy yields, low abort rates, and good pin density under standard cubensis conditions.

Special Traits
This strain is known for its regionally unique origin, beginner-friendly growth traits, and reliable spore production. It’s ideal for educational collections, microscopy, and light ceremonial use.
