Psilocybe cubensis | Unique Spore Coloration | MILD Potency Class
Potency: MILD
Scale:
Mild: 0.1–1.1%
High: 1.2–2.0%
Extreme: 2.1–3.0%
Origin & Genetic Lineage
The Rusty White strain was originally created by a cultivator known as Rustywhyte on the Shroomery.org forums. It’s a stabilized hybrid between Albino A+ and a strain with rust-colored spores. The result: a leucistic fruiting body that drops a rare rusty-brown spore print—highly unusual for Psilocybe cubensis. This unique trait makes Rusty White a standout cultivar in microscopy and cultivation circles, combining aesthetic appeal with dependable performance.
History & Community Spread
Since its public release, Rusty White has become a community favorite. It’s especially appreciated for its:
Consistent leucistic expression
Distinctive rust-hued spores
Beginner-friendly cultivation traits
It’s now a staple in many spore libraries and microscopy collections, known for both its visual uniqueness and ease of handling.
Appearance & Morphology
Rusty White mushrooms feature pale, almost translucent caps that mature from rounded to slightly flattened shapes. Stems are firm, white, and medium in length, often bruising light to medium blue. Spore prints appear rusty brown—a rarity in the cubensis genus and a defining feature of this strain.
Potency & Effects
Rusty White typically falls in the MILD category on the Tanasi Potency Scale. Its effects are often described as mellow and manageable, making it ideal for:
Light visual enhancements
Uplifting moods
Introductory journeys or social use
Later flushes may show slightly elevated potency, but overall it remains accessible for beginners and those seeking a gentle ride.
Cultivation Notes
Colonization is moderately fast, with healthy rhizomorphic growth. Rusty White performs well on BRF cakes, CVG mixes, and grain spawn. Fruiting temperatures in the 68–72°F range produce dense pinsets and average-sized flushes. It is known for being tolerant to varying humidity conditions, making it a reliable strain for growers at all skill levels.
Special Traits
Rusty White stands out with its rare spore color, leucistic fruiting body, and dependable growth pattern. Excellent for microscopy visuals, genetic experimentation, and showpiece photos. A clean and stable line worthy of any library.
